An Eichler for the Price of $915K ... and a Move to San Rafael

New, 3 comments

When we saw this well-cared-for Eichler in San Rafael, we liked it right away. It's got an abundance of floor-to-ceiling glass, skylights poking through those classic beamed ceilings, and a big wood-paneled kitchen tucked under the upslope of the roof, making it a good deal airier than a lot of midcentury kitchens. The four-bed, three-bath, 2,118-square-foot house was built in 1965 and it last sold in 2006 for $322.5K. Per the brokerbabble, the current owner made some upgrades—adding a bathroom, a large foyer, and a family room—which helps explain the new list price's near-triple somersault to $915K. We get excited anytime an owner doesn't embark on a path of haphazard destruction, but this $725K five-bed in Oakland, with its extra bedroom, irresistible A-frame, and au naturel wood ceilings, looks like the better buy.
