After a public hearing that lasted more than six hours, the Planning Commission approved a proposal that both legalizes and regulates short-term apartment rentals like those offered through Airbnb. The new ordinance allows short-term rentals for up to 90 days a year per apartment but would not change apartment leases that prohibit sublets. The law now also includes single-family homes but excludes SROs, which will not be permitted on the short-term rental market. The Board of Supervisors will likely vote on the measure in September.
