Cool Map Thing

A new interactive map shows the history of San Francisco's bike network from the city's first bike lane on Lake Street in 1971 to the explosion of lanes over the past few years. A significant slowdown in bike lane expansion is apparent starting in 2006, when a court halted new bicycle infrastructure in the city because of a lawsuit that claimed the Bicycle Plan needed more environmental review. The map lights up again in 2010, when the court's ruling was lifted. [Streetsblog SF]
