Fun with Urban Planning

Former garages and driveways along 18th Street in the Castro have been transformed into cafés and restaurants thanks to new zoning laws that allow garages to become shops, housing, and service spaces. Reveille Coffee Company (which started as a food truck before moving into an ex-garage) and tapas restaurant Beso were the first to take advantage of the law, and now a third garage is on its way to becoming some sort of business. What was curb space in front of the garages has now becoming public parking. [Streetsblog SF]
