Although cities such as Boston and Philadelphia have begun extending their train service into the wee hours of the morning, San Francisco is pretty much never getting all-night BART service, according to a spokeswoman for the system. BART was designed as a commuter line and doesn't have multiple tracks serving the same areas. It therefore needs to use its shut-down hours between midnight and 4 a.m. for maintenance. On the bright side, late-night carousers will be much less likely to wake up in San Jose. [NextCity]
