San Francisco has an affordable housing shortage of more than 40,800 units, according to a report from the California Housing Partnership. From 2000 to 2012, median rents in the city increased by 22 percent ... aaaand between 2007 and 2013 funding for affordable housing dropped 69 percent. Even if one-third of Mayor Lee's target of 30,000 new units by 2020 end up being affordable, that won't be enough to ease the pain. Sadly, we've heard this one before.
