Currently 1270 Mission Street in SoMa is the home of a squat red stucco building that houses a pizza place. The site could look very different in the next few years if a Preliminary Project Assessment submitted to Planning moves forward. The proposal calls for replacing the pizza shop and an accompanying parking lot with a towering (and presumably less tasty) 13-story building with 199 units and 3,329 square feet of ground-floor retail. The project would include 101 parking spaces, a bike storage room, and everyone's favorite topping: a roof deck. Planning has suggested a "living alley" to be created along the project's Laskie Street side with walk-up ground-floor units along Laskie that have entrances from the street. The project is being undertaken by Avant Housing, the developers of the SoMa Grand, Vara Apartments, and 900 Folsom. It's too soon to say whether any of the retail tenants will be pizza-related.
