Disaster Averted

The Board of Supervisors is all set to shore up a particularly unsteady portion of Lombard Street below Coit Tower, a part of Telegraph Hill threatened by erosion and rock slides. $1.8M will be set aside for the Telegraph Hill Rock Slope Improvement Project, which will stabilize "very large rock blocks that are potentially unstable" in hopes of avoiding another rock slide like one that happened in January 2012, when rocks up to eight feet (!) in diameter rained down on parked cars below.
