Lech Walesa Street in the Civic Center area is set to become Dr. Tom Waddell Place if approved by the Board of Supervisors tomorrow. Tom Waddell was a doctor and Olympic decathlete who started the Gay Games in the Castro in 1982 and worked at the City Clinic, which was also renamed in his honor. The name change comes after Nobel Peace Prize winner and Polish politician Lech Walesa made antigay remarks last year, leading to calls to rename the street. [BOS; SF Examiner]
