Ocean Avenue is one of San Francisco's fastest evolving neighborhood commercial corridors. New buildings are rising left and right, and more will break ground shortly. Now, the San Francisco Planning Department is working on a plan to spruce up the sidewalks along the street between Manor Drive and Phelan Avenue. The plan calls for "near-term improvements" such as bulbouts, enhanced landscaping, new sidewalk seating and bike racks, as well as pedestrian safety enhancements. The plan also makes mention of potential long-term improvements to be implemented on Ocean Avenue from Phelan Avenue down to Balboa Park Bart, but details on that portion of the project remain scarce. Construction on the near-term improvements should begin in 2015, barring any unexpected complications.
