Hotel History

SF Weekly dives into the history of Hotel Royan at 15th and Valencia, which was once the place of choice for Joe DiMaggio and famous author Oscar Zeta Acosta, who referred to the hotel as "The Mission's Finest." However, in the 1970s the hotel fell into decay and became known for housing drug addicts and playing host to frequent overdoses. More frequently, the 86-year old hotel converted to low-income housing, which is the role it plays today. [SF Weekly]
