At least nine private islands around the world can be purchased for less money than a high-end San Francisco apartment or house. For example, the little Platanitos Island off the coast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico costs $3 million, while a 3-bedroom condo near the Tenderloin is on the market for over $4 million.
