Alameda has had a ban on new multi-unit housing for 40 years, but it looks as if this will be scrapped with the city's somewhat controversial new plan to build more than 800 apartments and condos at Alameda Point. Developers have been asked to submit proposals to build housing, retail, hotels and offices on 1,500 shoreline acres with views of the Bay, San Francisco and the East Bay hills. Residents are concerned about the transportation issues that this new development would create. [SFGate]
