A new measure that would increase allowed building heights at Pier 70 from 40 feet to 90 feet is now being proposed for the November ballot. If passed, the Union Iron Works Historic District Housing, Waterfront Parks, Jobs and Preservation Initiative could allow developers at Forest City to move forward with grandiose plans for their dilapidated Dogpatch-adjacent property. The proposal no doubt comes as a slap in the face to boosters of the Waterfront Height Limit Right to Vote Act, also known as Proposition B, who recently managed to sink the Warriors Arena proposal at Piers 30-32. The new counter-measure could allow Forest City to bypass some of the many hurdles that could arise from the passage of Prop B. That being said, even if the new height limit measure gets on the ballot and passes, Forest City won't begin construction work at Pier 70 until 2016 at the earliest.
