Today the Board of Supervisors will vote on some measures to ease the pain for tenants who lose their housing due to Ellis Act evictions. According to new legislation, each relocated tenant will be entitled to either existing rent relocation payment or the difference between the tenant's current rent and the prevailing rent for a comparable apartment in San Francisco over a two year period - whichever is higher. There's also a provision for landlords that allows them to get an adjusted relocation payment obligation if they can prove undue financial hardship (ie. the new payment is too high because the comparable rents have gone even more bananas).
