Slew of Chain Stores Hoping to Join City Center on Masonic

New, 4 comments

Now that City Target has cozied up to its new home in the City Center Shopping Plaza at Masonic and Geary next to the Best Buy, other chain retail stores are looking to join the party. San Francisco is notoriously tough on formula retail approvals, but "mall" locations like City Center are exactly where planners would like to see them go. This week the Planning Commission will vote on letting Starbucks, GNC, Sleep Number, Chipotle, Ulta Beauty, and Panera move into the shopping center. Planning staff likes that the chains will be concentrated in the existing shopping plaza, which is already located in a zoned Geary commercial corridor. They're recommending approval, so we'll see how this location plays out in the larger citywide formula retail conversation.
