A set of "real estate experts" have been advertising and holding seminars around the Bay Area that supposedly teach people how to take advantage of the booming market by flipping houses. The Fortune Builders seminars draw on the popularity of cable TV shows like "Flip This House" and "Flip It to Win It," where flippers add superficial improvements to houses for big gains. The controversial seminars recently attracted even more scrutiny when a group of protesters descended on one to protest the workshop's encouragement of creating profits from rising housing prices.
