A new Whole Foods is headed to Gilman near the intersection of San Pablo in Berkeley. The new 30,500 sq. ft. store will be smaller than most new grocery stores in the area, but "Whole Foods Market stores aim to be intimate," according to a regional spokesman. The grocery chain will be reusing a space formerly occupied by Office Depot, which has already moved into larger remodeled digs directly across the street. Together the projects are collectively dubbed the Gilman District project and will add over 200 jobs. Construction began late last year, with the new grocery store expected to open in fall 2014.
