The historic San Francisco Armory has been used as a porn studio by owner Kink.com since 2007, but the company has now filed plans to transform the building to more traditional office use. Kink.com has put more than $2 million into renovating the historic building during its tenure as a film studio, creating film sets with 1930s speakeasy and dungeon themes. Now, however, the company has proposed transforming the film production sets into traditional offices, a move that would create 143,903 sq ft of new office space. Kink.com first starting leasing out parts of the Armory as office space back in 2012, although at that time it was only a small portion of the building.
The 39,000 square foot drill court would be slated as a public assembly for various uses such as spectator sports or nighttime entertainment, a use that fits with the building's history: the Armory was San Francisco's main sports venue from the 1920's through the 1940's. The project also would include work to the building's exteriors such as cleaning of the building's brick walls and restoration of the main doors.
