Airbnb has agreed to pay San Francisco's 14 percent hotel tax by this summer, a move that could add millions to the city's income and also help Airbnb avoid heightened conflict with regulators. San Francisco and Portland, Oregon will be the first cities to collect hotel taxes from the SF-based company. Similar to a hotel, Airbnb guests will pay an extra tax fee on their rooms to Airbnb, which will then pass along the money to the city. [SFGate]
