Oakland's Brooklyn Basin officially broke ground on its 3,100-unit residential portion yesterday. The project, which is just south of Jack London Square, will transform a 64-acre former industrial park into a vibrant neighborhood with apartments, condos, lofts and townhouses surrounded by retail space and 30 acres of parks and open space. The residential part of the development will cost $1.5 billion. [Globest.com]
