Planners for the next America's Cup event, unhappy with the city's current offer, have opened up bidding to other major U.S. cities. If this sounds familiar it's because America's Cup planners made a similar move negotiating the last America's Cup in an effort to squeeze more concessions from the city (which more or less worked). The new venues expected to bid include San Diego, Newport, R.I., and an unspecified area in Hawaii. [SFGate]
