Two blighted, abandoned properties and the adjacent Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist building on O'Farrell between Jones and Taylor may soon be making way for a modern new residential tower. According to a preliminary project assessment listed on the Planning Department's website, retail and a new church topped by a twelve story tower are in the works for the run-down site. The project is sponsored by the church itself, and is proposed to rise to 130 feet and contain 97 traditional dwellings as well as 74 group housing units. The proposal is still in the very early planning stages, and will no doubt be forced to overcome serious hurdles before becoming reality. A visit to Jonathan Delcambre Design's website revealed a nameless rendering, posted above, for a San Francisco project. Though there's no official confirmation that the building in the image is in fact 450 O'Farrell, the neighboring structures in the rendering do appear to match the ones at the intersection of O'Farrell and Jones.
