The city of San Francisco is taking a proactive, rather than reactive, approach to tackling increased traffic near the waterfront before it becomes a significant problem. The city will begin initiating pilot programs as early as this spring, including extending the 22-Fillmore bus to Mission Bay, increasing public transit service during special events, and increasing police foot patrols to better control traffic in problematic areas. The hope is to find permanent solutions before projects like the Warrior's Arena and Giant's Mission Rock developments are completed. [SF Examiner]
