Housing Development Coming to Joe's Cable Car Site

New, 1 comment

There's been a lot of hubbub lately over beloved institutions threatened by condos, and one long-time business is the latest in the trend. Last week sister site Eater SF brought the sad news that iconic Excelsior burger joint Joe's Cable Car is closing in mid-March. After some recent health scares owner Joe Obegi, who's been running the restaurant since 1965, decided to shut down instead of handing it off to someone else who wouldn't run it the same way. He has sold the property to new owners that plan to demolish the restaurant and build apartments. No plans have been submitted yet for the site that's zoned for 40', but we'll keep you posted as they materialize.
