Buried Treasure

The storms of the past few weeks have washed up fossils around the Bay Area that date from 5,000 to 10 million years ago. The tooth of a prehistoric shark called a megalodon was found on a beach in Santa Cruz County and may be 10 million years old. Another find was a tooth from a hippopotamus-like animal (Paleoparadoxia) that could walk the seafloor and that lived 10 to 20 million years ago. [SFGate]
