Evicted from the Jungle

The roughly 300 residents of the 68-acre San Jose homeless camp known as the Jungle, widely believed to be the biggest in the country, have been ordered to move out on Wednesday. The City of San Jose is setting aside $4 million for subsidized housing vouchers and plans to demolish the camp before Christmas. Residents, many of whom have jobs but can't afford sky-high Silicon Valley housing prices, say that even with vouchers, in this rental market they can't compete with prospective tenants who have perfect credit and rental histories.
