Pier 70 Watch

Now that height limit increases at Pier 70 have been approved by voters, the ambitious development project on the pier has moved on to its next step: an environmental clean-up. Heavy industry and shipbuilding have left Pier 70 with numerous contaminants, from asbestos to hydrocarbons. The Port of San Francisco's clean-up plan involves placing durable covers over the contaminated soil in most cases, while PG&E will excavate contamination that was caused by its former power plant operations on the site.
