When the grandiose white six-bedroom wedding cake at 3636 Clay Street hit the market in September, we were rather stunned by the $11 million asking price. The house boasts a stunning reception foyer complete with a four-landing staircase that the brokerbabble calls out, rather randomly, as "a great spot to make toasts." However, the kitchen appears to be nearly nonexistent and there is currently no parking at all (although a permit to add a garage is already in place). Yesterday the home dropped its lofty expectations a bit and cut its price from $11 million down to a rather more realistic $9.9 million.
With the exception of the kitchen, the house has been well preserved, but we imagine that whoever ends up scooping this place up will decide to make some extensive changes. A proper kitchen and a garage need to be added, of course, but the listing also suggests rearranging the interior space on the bedroom floor and, on the top floor, adding bedrooms and roof-deck access. The promotional video for the home even points out space on the bottom floor that could be transformed into a wine cellar. At least a few of the four and a half bathrooms will likely need to be updated, and the new owner might also want to do some repainting, given the the entire place is currently covered in the same shade of beige.
