Map via HotPads
Our friends at HotPads have compiled data on bike thefts from Bike Index, an open-source bike-registry database that helps identify stolen bikes. Through the Bait Bike initiative, San Francisco bike thefts fell 20 percent between January and September of 2013 and the same period this year, notes HotPads. But the hotspots for thievery persist, most notably in the Mission and SoMa. The map lets you zoom in to see specific corners—Harrison and Ninth looks particularly bad, as does Folsom between 19th and 20th, right outside Southern Pacific Brewing and John O'Connell High School. Check your regular routes to see where not to park.
