Tech Takeover

The former Sears store in Oakland's Uptown neighborhood is about to become a big tech office, and two unnamed companies have already submitted proposals to take over the entire 400,000-square-foot space. The building, which sits right on top of a BART station, has been renamed Uptown Station and is set to emerge from a major renovation by April 2016. The interiors, designed by Gensler, will cater to tech firms, while the ground floor will house a market hall for restaurants and small vendors. [SF Business Times]
