Elbo Rumor

New, 2 comments

Last night devotees of the Elbo Room gathered to strategize about how to prevent the club from being demolished to make way for condos. As you recall, Elbo Room founders Dennis Ring and Susan Rokisky-Ring—who sold the business in 2010 but still own the building—want to put up a nine-unit building and retire there. Opponents, who don't want to see a favorite venue relocate, will likely seek to block the owners' plans on the grounds that the existing location has cultural significance. Meanwhile, Elbo Room co-owner Matt Shapiro sounds a bit conflict-weary at the prospect of fighting his landlords' wishes, and strikes an upbeat note about the future of the club, wherever its location.
