After rallying yesterday in front of Facebook's Menlo Park HQ, drivers of the company's shuttle buses are voting today on whether to unionize with the Teamsters. The drivers work for Loop Transportation, which Facebook contracts with, and make between $18 and $20 per hour and receive health benefits. But they also face extra-long days, often sleeping in their cars between the morning and evening shifts. By comparison, one worker noted, SF Muni, AC Transit, and SamTrans drivers can make as much as $25 or $30 an hour. If the union vote goes through, the push to organize could expand to drivers for Google, Apple, and other tech companies. [San Jose Mercury News; previously]
