After drawing the ire of Design District devotees over its rather un-photogenic plan to oust local makers and designers from 2 Henry Adams Street to make way for a new HQ, Pinterest has officially (officially!) dropped its pursuit of a Showplace Square address. As you recall, a maneuver by Supervisor Malia Cohen involving landmark designation already pretty well foiled the photo-sharing service's designs on the center back in July. Today a Pinterest spokesperson confirmed that the company has instead signed a more Internet-friendly lease down the road at 651 Brannan, home of Modcloth and, until recently, Eventbrite.
The company will lease more than 100,000 square feet, and will move some of its teams to the building in 2015, says Pinterest spokesperson Malorie Lucich. "Exact timing is TBD," she says. "We'll continue to look for space to meet the needs of the growing company."
