It's official. At the end of this year, Drakes Bay Oyster Company will stop harvesting oysters. The company reached a settlement with the federal government today, ending a two-year legal battle. Come January 2015, the National Park Service will be in charge of removing the oyster-farming equipment from Drakes Estero.
