SAN FRANCISCO—The Eater 38, our list of the essential San Francisco restaurants, has been updated. Find out which 38 local spots you simply can't miss.

OAKLAND—Beer, bowling, bocce, arcade games, pool: Oakland's new Plank packs a lot of fun into its 50,000 square feet. Take a tour.

PRESIDIO—Also freshly opened: Arguello, Traci des Jardins' new Mexican spot in the revamped Presidio Officers' Club. We're digging the sheltered patio, firepits, and margaritas galore.

MISSION—Former Mission Chinese Food chef Jesse Koide is going out on his own with Pink Zebra, an awesome Japanese pop-up that debuts in the Mission tonight.

SoMa—Marlowe has moved a couple of blocks away and into a bigger and better new space. Check out the new look and see what's on the menu.

SoMa—A bartender at Marlowe's sister spot the Cavalier had an Uber ride home after work turn into a nightmare when his driver brutally beat him with a hammer. As his friends fundraise to help save his damaged left eye, he's trying to get the rideshare company to take responsibility.

MISSION—With cat cafés and beer bars opening left and right, you could be forgiven for thinking Puss 'n Boots, a proposed cat beer bar, was really going to happen. It's actually a prank: but a funny one.

SILICON VALLEY—Lots of news from David Kinch this week: the Manresa chef says his fire-damaged restaurant could reopen by year's end, and he's also probably opening a second one.
