At yesterday's Board of Supervisors hearing, Supe. Wiener gave DBI a piece of his mind, citing buildings that "are just in, at times, awful condition." He's fed up with violation notices that go nowhere and have no teeth to force property owners to fix up their dilapidated or unfinished buildings. DBI claims that the process gets held up when really bad violations are refereed to the city attorney's office where things end up lost in the shuffle or a victim of a lengthy process. Teaming up with Supe. Cohen, Wiener called for a hearing to look at DBI's inspection and enforcement policies, and more importantly how they are (or aren't) coordinating with other safety agencies like the fire department and Public Health.
