San Francisco's newest highrise is set to top out today—the control tower at SFO. The final steel beam will be hoisted into place, along with a ceremonial evergreen and American flag. Located between terminals 1 and 2, the torch-like tower rises out of a 3-story podium building that will house administrative offices and the most advanced computer equipment available to aid airport staff. The graceful 220-foot tower will replace the seismically-unsafe tower currently in use when construction is complete in late 2015. The $102 million tower is also seeking a LEED Gold certification.
