Here Now, Renderings of the BART Trains of the Future

New, 5 comments

Designs for BART's next batch of rail cars have evolved considerably since the last time the transit agency released images of its "Fleet of the Future." With test cars scheduled to hit the rails by 2015, it's no surprise that far more detailed designs are now available to the public. Spiffy new renderings show brightly color-coded seats, digital screens with travel information in multiple languages, as well as extra doors to facilitate quicker boarding. Assuming all functions as intended, better sound insulation should provide riders with relief from the eardrum-rupturing screeching noise caused by friction on the rails. If riders and government officials approve of the bombardier-built test trains, the first full order of new cars should roll out for service in 2017, with the remainder of them arriving in increments up until 2023.
