The Whole Nine (Thousand) Yards

Work has been underway for over 3 years and now the Transbay Transit Center will finally transition from just an excavation to an actual building site. The western end of the building has begun pouring the first of 15 foundation pours that will consume 4,000 cubic yards (over 400 truck loads) of concrete each. An additional 100,000 cubic yards will be required just to finish the train level, the lowest level of the new transit center. [San Francisco Business Times]
