Smithsonian Maps Get Fancy

The Smithsonian has set the interactive digital map bar very high, with a variety of historic map overlays for a handful of US cities. San Francisco has one, with an 1859 US Coast Survey sailing chart of the City and the bay overlaid atop a Google map. The map brings to light some of the city's major changes, including massive infill along the bay, and cuts off before the Presidio and Twin Peaks. [Smithsonian]
