At long last, the magnificent historic building on the corner of Haight and Fillmore appears to be almost finished after a total makeover. The original building, a plainer version of what's currently there, was destroyed in a massive fire in September of 2011. Now, almost two years later, the building looks like a million bucks, which probably isn't too far from the cost of the renovation. Detailing has been restored throughout the façade, and the retail space fronting Haight Street (to be occupied by CVS) has been completely opened up, which is a welcome departure from the windowless Walgreens that previously occupied the space. Over on the Fillmore street side, Three Twins Ice Cream and Estela's Fresh Sandwiches will be reopening after long absences.
