Planned improvements of two blocks of Castro Street have been given a "go-ahead" by the SFMTA. The 400 and 500 blocks of the historic street (where Harvey Milk operated his campaign and camera shop) are the focus of the $4 million makeover. Expect to see widened sidewalks, bulb-outs, new trees, and improvements to both Jane Warner Plaza and the nearby mini park. Construction is to commence in January, and be completed in time for the Castro Street Fair in October, 2014. [Bay Area Reporter/photo via David Sweet Photography]
