San Francisco is falling behind in green roof construction when compared to its other cities. A 2012 list of top areas for green roof construction did not even include San Francisco, which often prides itself on leading the environmental charge. It is, however, implementing "green infrastructure" in the form of a 20-year watershed improvement plan that will reduce runoff and take pressure off the sewer system during large storms. The infrastructure is also "double purposed to spruce up neighborhoods with such things as rain gardens, (and) permeable and decorative paving." [The Registry]
