Time is Money For Caltrain

With Caltrain ridership levels up 11 percent this year (and 97 percent since 2004) property values and construction activity near stations are spiking. Much of this may be attributed to Caltrain's Baby Bullet express service that reaches speeds up to 79 MPH. The Bay Area Council Economic Institute has found that "a one-minute reduction in expected travel time boosts housing values by 1.5 percent to 2.4 percent within a quarter mile of a station." Once the electrification of Caltrain is complete, further increasing speed and reliability, "commercial property values could increase up to 25 percent." [The Registry/Curbed SF]
