The new eastern span of the Bay Bridge may not be opening anytime soon but at least when it does it'll be covered in palm trees. The powers that be are planning to install 88 palms, most likely Canary Island Palms, along the bridge median and approach. This type of palm does very well in the San Francisco climate, but is susceptible to Fusarium Wilt, a disease that killed 26 of the same type of trees along the Embarcadero. [Curbed SF/SFist]
