You can't (legally) bury your relatives on San Francisco land, but a North Beach church is hoping to open San Francisco's first pet columbarium to house ashes of up to 1,000 creatures. No construction permits have been filed yet, but the National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi is already trying to get donations ranging from $1,000 to $40,000. The columbarium will "be reserved to honor service animals as well as police dogs and horses." Renderings right this way way. [SFGate/Shrine SF]
