Getting Around (or in This Case Under) the SF State Campus

San Francisco State University has a proposal for a new Recreation and Wellness Center on far north side of campus, but part of the plan requires a pedestrian tunnel which the Supes will vote on tomorrow. The tunnel will cross below Winston Drive providing a safe and accessible walkway between the main campus and the new facility. The university handles all the environmental review on their own campus, but in order to build the pedestrian tunnel they need permission to basically occupy part of the public right-of-way (the road). The new center designed by WRNS Studio will be LEED gold, and with planned start of construction in the spring of 2014, the project could be complete in early 2016.
