SAN FRANCISCO—The Eater 38, our list of the essential SF restaurants, got its quarterly update this week. Check out the places we think are the best in town.

THE EMBARCADERO—We took a look around Waiheke Island Yacht Club, the megawatt new pop-up from one of New Zealand's best chefs at the America's Cup Pavilion. See how they make four-star food without a stove.

New to the scene: Laurel Village Latin spot Artesano, Umami Burger's first Oakland location, the Mission wine-bar/sandwichery combo of La Movida and Pal's Takeaway, Tacolicious' new location in North Beach, Portuguese-influenced Bernal coffee shop Cafe St. Jorge, and two new spots in Hayes Valley: Eastern European cafe 20th Century and swanky cocktail bar Brass Tacks. Whew.
