It looks like the long-toiling Lafayette Park renovations are finally done, and the city will be holding a reopening party on Saturday June 8. The redesigned park has been in the works since 2008, when $10M of a $185M Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond was allocated to Lafayette Park. After sloughing through a few neighbor lawsuits, the final product includes renovated tennis courts, restored pathways, new irrigation and drainage, increased lighting, ADA upgrades, and new landscaping with drought-tolerant plants, picnic areas, and off-leash dog runs. The June 8 party will feature a Children's Play Day, Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, bluegrass bands Nell Robinson and House & Garden, and tours of the new park features. Today the Board of Supes will vote on a resolution recognizing the team that pushed the project forward, so you know it'll be a love fest all around.
